Okay. What's the point of keeping up with how many battles you've fought?

Isn't the point of uncursing it supposed to be keeping 'cursed' off? And when you fight a battle and the timer doesn't appear, wouldn't that let one think it might be uncursed by then? Or at the least, unequipped?
