Okay, so my goal for snowy-day's fourteenth layout was to have more or less very consistant results with different browsers.

After looking at javascripts today, I decided that netscape and opera users would not be counted. And since those are 2/5 of the browsers I have installed (netscape *7*, opera 7, netscape, 1.22ish, Firefox .92, and IE 6) that levelled the playing field to just firefox and IE.

Both of whom seem to allow my using 'allow transparency=true' or something along those lines--whatever it was that was refusing to render my iframe as transparent in netscape+opera:P (and now it's sitting there, just a white box.. if this bothers you, you can switch your normal display colors to *my* favorite setting, dark green on black instead of black on white;)).

So now the issue is IE. It refuses to do like I tell it to with divs and layers-_-

After mucking about with the last version (which people seemed to think was 'too bright' for some reason^_^) and realizing that it wasn't firefox that was the problem (the problem was trying to code it for IE and have it look 'right') switching to firefox was like a refreshing change.

The layers went exactly where I took them. They didn't fight within the browser window, trying to use up as much space as they needed, which is what I noticed with IE.. strange. And, my iframe is both transparent *AND* doesn't scroll!

But it does in IE. Which ticks me off. Because I know it doesn't need to scroll-- I found that out when I went through and upped the width by about a million, and it still scrolled, the same amount. Heck, I'm not going to fight with that. Let it scroll. It's a nasty mofo and I enjoy the irony of the current situation.

Remember how I said I gave up on the javascripting with netscape and opera? The one that lets you choose which one to use with which browser? I had made a snowyday-purple-opera-netscape.css.

Which is what IE will load any time you load snowy-day.net:) (or it will be when I upload all of this stuff-_-)

So in the meantime, I apologize if you're using Opera, or Netscape (I haven't even thought of trying even more browsers, like the ones for linux and stuff.. I don't really have an opportunity to:P), that iframe will be white, no matter what. So just go in and set your background to black :) It'll look fine, and you'll have a fun time with other webpages (then you can email the webmasters and taunt "HAHA, I know you didn't set a background color! Haha!" which is really fun, and almost makes up for the annoyingness of news sites that don't set them-_-)

IE users-- suck it up. Take Allison's Five Day Challenge:

The gist of the Five Day Challenge is to not use IE for anything for five days. And then decide which browser you really like best. I told myself I might as well use firefox for a while (I can't remember why though.. maybe it was when I was doing the inital cssing for this version of snowyday) and I just forgot to start using IE again.

The rules of the Five Day Challenge:

Any html coding you do must be optimized for the browser you are using (firefox, opera, netscape, any of the other ones I've never used but have heard about tha tyou might try)

You must set this browser to be your default browser

If stuff like MSN messanger pops windows up in IE, just highlight the url and close them, opening a new browser window.

You must try as many features as possible in the new browser (like tabs in your windows and stuff)

Keep a list of the differences between your new browser and IE.

Post a comment here to tell whether you really lasted five days before you realized you didn't need IE anymore:)

Hah. I haven't used IE unless I absolutely HAD to for about 3-4 months. I hate IE, and use firefox. I used to not like tabbed browsing much... but now that I've gotten used to it I LOVE it, it makes everything so much more easy to access, and such. :P
