Band was awesome today.
I had this awesome dream this morning that had a lot of stuff from recent events in it (marching bands, interstate highways, internet browsers (IE would throw a heavy sheet down in front of your driving, sortal ike chain mail, but netscape and the gecko engine would give you little boxes of juice xD) and little girls that have to go to the hospital:O
But about the marching band. Their colors were like dark dark maroon and white and black, they were sorta like pirates xD And they had a guy dressed up in a mascot's uniform. They had a little trailer hauling timpani too.
And they were playing this cadence, and the band had music that went along with it.
And I woke up, and I remembered it.
And I hummed it to myself while marching, while listening to the rest of my squad practice their test material.
And then, when almost everyone was gone, I asked jarrett if he'd helped me, so we set up the four old bassdrums and I told him the simple pattern I had come up with, and I played along on quads to the rhythm I remembered. Then I went to ask mr. ray if he'd give us an off-beat on snare. I mean, it didn't sound very good, but it was sorta neat:O
Now I have to write it. Somehow.
Oh:D And during drilldowns, our squad got released first:DDDD I was so proud of them ^_^ although I thought mr. ray and mr. k might just be giving us time to practice for our placement test on monday. We had pro temporum (zomg,
jebbus said this was more or less valid latin xDDD I just sorta made it up) squad leaders assigned, so me and Shanna had percussion (Shanna is the drum major).
We put them in two lines-- five a line and let them march inbetween each other a little bit. Then, we came up with a march two lines hold 1 line and go another two lines :O That went rather well.
We also tried a 'okay you guys in the front row march 8 lines and then hold, and you guys in the back go 9 lines' but it didn't work very well xD We were just trying to go across the entire field xD Then we decided that really there aren't any movements more than 32 counts (8 counts/line, 32=four lines). So we shortened it and it worked much betterxD
We also did some spur of the moment sets. Tell them to start marching and do as we said-- and not tell them until they hit the lines whether to hit hold or continue onxD Unfortunately we forgot to discuss before hand what we would do so I think we might've said different things at different times xDD But they were rather good natured about it xD
And at least they listened when we told them to do good in drilldowns. <3
