I use .PNG

It’s good because you can maintain things like transparency etc. (in fire fox anyway) and you can also use it for texturing in Maya.

I love PNG, but it's lossless by nature xD it can fake lossiness with the whole 8-bit mode it has, but then it just looks like a better GIF.
