..Continuing our hallway discussion before fourth hour today...

I pledge allegiance to the flag,
Of the United States of America,
And to the republic, for which it stands,
One nation, under God, indivisible,
With Liberty and justice for all.

You say it can be "anyone's god", but what if people believe in more than one god, or no god at all? Do they just pretend?

Pretnd what? How often are people saying this pledge? Why can't those people that believe in more than one God just say "Under Gods..."? Does it really OFFEND said people? I mean seriously. Is that one line in something that that is hardly said really so offensive that it needs all this debate? It's not like it's a derogatory remark. It's not forcing you to believe in anything. It's not saying "if you say this pledge, you must be a religious fanatic".

Its because it was a majority of people that believe in God that this was put into the pledge to the flag. Our flag represents our country and the founding fathers of this country that happened to believe in God. In this country, majority rules, does it not? To take that out is taking out a part of history that the founders of our country believed in. Just because we don't like the outcome of something in history, do we just change it because the times have changed? Especially something like this. I understand why there is this debate, I just think it's something that isn't worthy of debating. Whether I believe in God or not, it's not offensive to me. And if it were I just won't say that part of the pledge. Simple.

If I believed in more than one God, then I'm pretty sure that yes, it would offend me that the government forced my public school to recite a pledge every day that promotes monotheism.

This country was founded to give rights to everyone - especially those with minority views. It sickens me that people ignore certain people's feelings just because they're not part of the majority. I think the founding fathers would be disgusted with our utter lack of disrespect for our fellow citizens.
